We are frequently referred by engineers and foundation inspectors when improper grading contributes to foundation problems. Poor grading, which causes water to pool behind the foundation walls, may eventually result in more expensive repairs needed to shore up the walls. Evidence of this is efflorescence on the wall (seen in the lower right photo).

Channel drains (upper two photos and below) in patios and driveways and improved pitch to carry water away from the foundation were installed in these projects. Drain lines and swales are also effective tools. Moving plantings and installing clay soil to ensure positive drainage often helps, too. Permeable pavers are increasingly popular in wet areas.
